The Beautifying Effects
of a Facelift

A facelift surgery delivers the dream look you envision by making major improvements in three significant areas:

Skin

Collagen production decreases with age, causing your skin to thin and lose elasticity, leading to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. During a facelift, Dr. Foster trims excess skin and smooths what remains.

Muscles

As facial muscles weaken over time, you can lose tone, leading to drooping along the jawline. Your facial muscles can be tightened during a facelift to reduce sagging, thereby restoring a youthful appearance.

Fat

Facial fat can shift position as we age, moving from the cheeks to under the chin. This can create the appearance of jowls or a double chin. During a facelift at our New York City clinic, Dr. Foster can remove excess fat to slim your look.

Facelifts Are Truly
Transformative

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is an incredibly popular surgical procedure that reverses signs of aging, providing noticeable, permanent improvements that cannot be achieved with non-surgical methods.

While we offer several facelift surgeries (including mini facelifts), in many cases patients who visit Dr. Foster's Manhattan practice need a full facelift to best rejuvenate their appearance. During a full facelift, Dr. Foster tightens and re-drapes the skin, muscles, and underlying tissue on the entire face and neck to give you a younger, natural look.

Tailored Facelift Options

In addition to full traditional facelifts, Dr. Foster offers several facelift variations at his Upper East Side practice. These targeted procedures can often mean less recovery time while still refreshing your appearance.

Lower Facelift

If you are bothered by jowls and loose skin on your neck, a lower facelift can rejuvenate and transform your appearance. A lower facelift targets sagging skin around the mouth, along the jawline, and on the neck. The lower face and neck commonly show early signs of aging, and many patients in their 40s and 50s prefer to target this specific area rather than pursue a full facelift.

Mid Facelift

A mid facelift offers a great option for patients with loose skin primarily around the lower eyelids and cheeks. If you are concerned about this area of your face, it is important for you to meet with our Manhattan surgeon for a consultation so that Dr. Foster can determine whether you would benefit more from a mid facelift or a combination of lower eyelid surgery and cheek implants.

Mini Facelift

Nicknamed the "weekend facelift" for the quickness of the procedure and its shortened recovery time, the mini facelift is ideal for Manhattan-area facelift patients in their 30s and 40s who are just starting to experience sagging or drooping of facial skin. A mini facelift requires smaller incisions and less recovery than a full facelift, but cannot achieve the same drastic results.

Facelift vs. Injectables Which Is Right for You?

woman with clear, smooth skin

Injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers can offer noticeable short-term improvements with little to no downtime. For patients in the early stages of aging, these treatments can soften lines, add volume, and refresh the face temporarily. However, injectables do not address deeper structural changes like sagging skin, weakened muscles, or displaced fat.

A facelift, by contrast, delivers long-lasting improvement by correcting the underlying causes of facial aging. Dr. Foster lifts and repositions facial tissues for a smoother, more youthful contour. This approach works not just on the surface, but at a deeper anatomical level. The results can last for 10 years or more and are especially effective for patients with moderate to advanced signs of aging.

During your consultation at our New York office, Dr. Foster will evaluate your goals and facial structure to determine whether surgery, injectables, or a combination of both will achieve the most natural and satisfying outcome.

The Full Facelift Process

Numbing Anesthetic

We work with a certified anesthesiologist who will administer general anesthesia to keep you from feeling any pain whatsoever during your surgery.

Pinpoint Incisions

Dr. Foster makes a careful incision, typically from the hairline to the ears. The precise length and dimensions of the incision will be customized to your unique face.

Tightening and Draping

Our surgeon lifts your skin and tightens both your soft tissues and underlying muscles. He removes excess fat and elevates chin pads before redraping your trimmed skin over your face.

Combination Procedures

During the stage described above, other procedures like a neck lift or liposuction may be performed for better results. A neck lift can tighten your neck skin to better compliment your refreshed face.

Stitching and Suturing

Dr. Foster sutures or stitches your incisions closed before bandaging the area. He and his team then monitor your progress and discharge you to go home once the anesthesia wears off.

We Offer Many Options For a Refreshed Appearance

In addition to the facelift variations listed below, our Upper East Side board-certified surgeon also offers other facial plastic surgery procedures to refine the nose, eyelids, and other parts of the face.

On top of performing blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, and lip augmentation, Dr. Foster offers a variety of non-surgical options like BOTOX® Cosmetic and other injectables.
