Rejuvenate Your Features with A Lower Facelift

Aging is inevitable, and the process effects everyone differently. Some patients are particularly bothered by wrinkles around the eyes or on the forehead, while others are more concerned about a sagging neck and jaw line. It is common for patients in their 50s to develop jowls along the lower face, and loosening skin in the neck area. However, these signs of aging can be reversed and rejuvenated. A  lower facelift performed by world-renowned Manhattan plastic surgeon Craig Foster can transform an aging appearance and give you back your youthful look -- and confidence.

Many patients in their 40s and 50s are not ready for a full facelift, and instead take advantage of the option to target more specific areas. A lower facelift can lift the neck and tighten loose skin to restore a beautiful contour to an area that often shows early signs of aging.

Dr. Foster is an expert plastic surgeon with years of experience performing lower face lifts and other cosmetic procedures. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation.

What Is A Lower Facelift?

Like a full facelift, a lower facelift tightens and repositions the muscles and skin on the face and neck. A full facelift would include a mid facelift (for lower eyelids and cheeks) and a brow lift, while a lower facelift concentrates on the lower third of the face.

To perform a lower facelift, neck muscles are repositioned, with excess fat and skin removed to bring back a youthful contour and smoothness. The “turkey wattle” is eliminated, along with sagging jowls and a down-turned look to the mouth. The procedure redefines and accentuates the angles of the lower face and neck, tightens underlying facial structures, and gives a visual lift to the bottom third of the face. The surgery is accomplished using very small incisions that are hidden in the hairline near the ears and underneath the chin.

For patients interested in cheek elevation or brow work, a standard face lift might be more appropriate. Dr. Foster is dedicated to patient-oriented care and will take the time to discuss your cosmetic goals and explain the procedures that can best help you achieve them.

Recovery Time

The recovery period for a lower face lift varies by the patient, but generally takes about two weeks. Many patients feel well enough to be up and walking within a few days following surgery. After 5 to 6 days, most patients can apply makeup to cover the bruising and resume non-strenuous activities. Bruising, particularly along the neck, usually lasts about two weeks, and swelling may take longer to subside. If you have a special upcoming event or plan to be photographed, it is advised to give yourself a few weeks longer to fully recover and look your best.
